‘The Elephant King’ to go on screen at Cannes Film Market

Iran animation ‘The Elephant King’ is to go on screen at the 2019 Cannes Film Market.

Directed by Hadi Mohammadian, Iranian animation ‘The Elephant King’ has been scheduled to go on screen at the 2019 Cannes Film Market.

The animation will be screened in the Palais Cinema on May 17 in the city of Cannes. Palais is the venue for the annual Cannes Film Festival.

Set in Africa, the animation narrates the story of an elephant who rules over its group like a king.

The queen bears him a son and everybody expects the son to replace his father as heir to the throne. The clumsy baby elephant, however, disappoints them all.

‘The Elephant King’ is the production of Iranian Honar Pooya Group. The head of the group Hamed Jafari said some deals for international distribution of Honar Pooya productions have been signed.

According to Jafari, the details of the deals will be announced later.

‘The Elephant King’ went on the silver screen during the Persian New Year holidays in 2018 and was warmly received by the audience. It grossed more than 85 billion Rials at the box office.

The animation is currently the most-watched and highest-grossing animation of Iranian cinema.

The 2019 Cannes Film Market is scheduled for May 14-23.
